Body Therapy – Rolf Method / Structural Integration
At Bindevævs-Akademiet, you have the opportunity to learn how to correct posture using important elements from the Rolf Method, also called Structural Integration.
The technique from this approach is part of our education in connective tissue therapy.
The Rolf method is a technique where tensions in the connective tissue are systematically released from toe to top in a gentle and deep manner following a specific protocol, and over ten sessions the entire body is addressed, whereby posture is rebuilt and the various body structures are integrated with each other.
What is unique about the Rolf Method is that you as a therapist can model posture for optimal balance without manipulation, so the client feels lifted from within and doesn’t need to use unnecessary energy to stay upright. After the treatment series, the body’s reconstruction is self-reinforcing, and many clients can feel lasting effects.
The Rolf Method focuses neither on illness nor diagnoses. Instead, the relaxation of the body and improved posture result in flexibility and balance that simultaneously improve the body’s circulation and biochemistry, making it easier for the body to cleanse and heal itself. Throughout the treatment series, the body often releases physical ailments, pain, and stress on its own.

Additionally, these Beneficial Effects Can also be Experienced During a Rolf Treatment Series:
- Greater body awareness and the ability to sense yourself and your boundaries
- Freer mobility and easier breathing
- Better performance ability
- Grounding, more energy and vitality
- Release of old traumas, shock, and emotions
- Change of old life patterns
- Provides a fresh start
- Increased well-being
The Ten Sessions in the Rolf Method are Structured as Follows
- Sessions 1-3 work to open the chest and free breathing. Create a good, weight-bearing foundation for the body and balance the head, shoulders, and pelvis in relation to gravity.
- Sessions 4-7 focus on the body’s core with the deep muscles in the legs, pelvis, abdomen, back, neck, and head. This gives the body a lift from within.
- Sessions 8-10 integrate the changes and bring the entire body into balance.
The Origin of the Rolf Method
In the 1930s, American biochemist Ida P. Rolf discovered that connective tissue is malleable or plastic, and that by releasing connective tissue she could change the structure of the human body. She developed Rolfing©, which is a treatment series of 10 sessions with posture-correcting connective tissue massage.
Stanley Rosenberg became a certified Rolfer© in 1983 in the USA. He then further developed the hard approach to tissue he had learned to use into his own gentle Rosenberg Technique. He subsequently combined the Rosenberg Technique with Rolfing and called it the Rolf Method.
The Educational Program
We include important elements from the Rolf Method in our Education in Connective Tissue Therapy. You can become certified in the Rolf Method as an advanced course to the connective tissue therapy education. This takes place as supervision over ten individual days.
